Central Corfu

Central Corfu is the geographical center of the island.

It is the area with the most population, about 40,000 permanent residents live here. It includes the city of Corfu and the municipal district of Achilleion which after the city is the most populous.

It has several small and big traditional villages and many tourist seaside resorts and beaches. Both on the East and on the West coast of the island.

Here and on the Eastside, there are destinations such as Benitses, Perama, Kanoni south of the city, and the capital city of the island itself.

Also in this area is the Achilleion palace, but also the most important monuments of the island in and around Corfu Town.

While on the west coast we find unique beaches such as the nudist beach of Myrtiotissa, and the famous Pelekas with its beach of Kontogyalos. The long sandy beach of Aghios Gordios, the beach of Ermones, and Glyfada, island’s most cosmopolitan beach.

Northeast Corfu

Northeast Corfu is an area of great interest. For the many beaches as well as for its interior which is dominated by Pantokrator Mountain.

In Pantokrator there are the two highest peaks of Corfu. The Pantokrator at an altitude of 915 meters in the east and Stravoskadi at 890 meters a couple of miles to the west.

Also, small mountain villages that keep their traditional beauty intact with very few inhabitants. Almost untouched by progress and time.
They are Spartilas, Strynilas closer to the top, and many more.

Perithea is an abandoned medieval village, hidden among mountain peaks so that pirates could not find it.
In recent years, the village has been reborn. Taverns and other small shops have been created in renovated old traditional houses. Here the stone dominates as the main building material.

So there are ideal destinations for those who prefer a quieter holiday in calm clear waters.

In the northern part, the most developed tourist resort is Kassiopi, a historic village that existed since antiquity.

Here was a theater visited by Nero and a large fortress, whose remnants are still preserved.

Here is also the area of the Erimitis. A pristine expanse of paradise beaches which is going to be sold and destroyed because this is implied by the memoranda.

To the north, there is Corfu’s second lagoon of Antivioti, which is a great wetland.

East of Antinioti the beach of Agios Spyridon Karniaris.

South of Kassiopi and after Erimitis, the beaches of the area are multifarious, small bays mainly with pebbles and not very developed. Many small seaside locations with many tavernas and crystal clear waters. Such as Agios Stefanos, Kerasia, Kouloura, Kalami, Agni, Krouzeri, Kaminaki, Nissaki, Barbati. The area from Pyrgi to the city of Corfu is touristy developed and includes large tourist resorts with large hotel units up to 5 stars.

Below Pyrgi on the east coast is the famous tourist resort of Ipsos. Followed by Dassia one of the oldest tourist areas on the island and finally Gouvia with the large homonymous yacht marina.

It should also be noted that in the area of Tzavros there is the General Hospital of Corfu. A state-of-the-art building, unfortunately without all the necessary staffing specifically for medical staff.

Lefkimi is the second most populous city of Corfu and is located a few kilometers north of Kavos.

It has grown significantly in recent years and became a modern city. It doesn’t reminisce in any way the city of the 80s where the dilapidated houses and a sense of regression and delay were present.

The place is transformed to help the oppressed British youngsters to outburst themselves. Needless to say, anything more.

South and West Corfu

The large traditional villages of the interior seem to be stuck in time, life flows slow and does not seem to have changed much in recent years.

The same happens with the huge beaches. Except for the beach of Agios Georgios with the great tourist development in recent years. But most villages remain almost untouched by the uncontrolled tourist exploitation. In the south of Corfu, places preserve their natural beauty.

Chalikounas and Issos, Agios Georgios of Argyradon, Marathias or else Marta or Malta, and the beach of Agia Varvara. All these are in a line that extends for several miles.

At the northern part of the long beach of Vitalades is the handsome Gardenos beach that ends at Lakka or Cannula beach. Further south is the cape of Arkoudillas which has an amazing unspoiled beach itself. This beach in turn reaches Asprokavos cape that has its own beautiful sandy beach.
