Acharavi – Huge Beach and Tourist Destination in North Corfu
This was a village, clustered a few years ago round a well in the middle, but it is now a small town, with banks, supermarkets, schools, etc.
The old village can be found but has to be searched out, hidden behind the modern buildings fronting the main road, ends on the lanes leading down to the sandy beach.
There are many tavernas, bars, and shops here, so many that local people no longer need to make trips to Corfu Town, almost everything can be found on their doorstep!
Along the coast is a water park which appeals to children of all ages, and then the nature reserve of Agios Spyridon, with a lake containing wildlife of great interest to Gerald Durrell, who had a house here for a while.
Up in the hills behind Acharavi is the abandoned village of Old Perithia, now gradually being brought back to life, with some excellent tavernas which are necessary having made the long haul up there!
